For another one of NewSpring's teaching series "Sermon On the Mount," they wanted a 12-week study to accompany the live events. I was tasked with designing and directing the project, so I got to work. I had already created the look for the series, so I had the color palette ready. I thought it would be awesome to have local artists create pieces based off of the material for each section, so I found the artists, gave them the color palette for the brand, and hired them to create the pieces to go along with the materials. It was a blast to work with so many incredible artists and create a piece myself.
I also worked with a local photographer for the photographs in the booklet, and we decided on content, editing style, and look as well. I also advocated to have a credit page added to the end of the booklet — as NewSpring had never added that to their publications before — so that people could see the artist's names and all the awesome people who came together to create this piece!
Additionally, I knew I wanted it to feel clean and cohesive, so I worked with copywriters to get the copy to work on each page with such large margins and fully justified text. It was tedious, but the lay and flow of the type was fully worth it! I also did many different print tests to make sure the type could be read by anyone.
